Industrial First Aid Course

This course has a nominal duration of three days including assessment.

It is intensely practical course that involves participants in realistic industry specific training scenarios that approximate as closely as possible the actual situation the first aider may have to deal with. It has been well accepted by those in heavy industry where, in the event of an accident, the consequences to the injured worker could be severe.

The course aim is to equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide care to a severely injured or ill person until arrival of medical services and if required, to provide assistance to those services.

Participants will develop skills including:-

  • Scene assessment.
  • Assessment of the person with severe trauma.
  • Airway managements and resuscitation.
  • Administration of oxygen via therapy mask, soft bag resuscitators and demand valves.
  • Management of the person who is:-

            Unconscious
            Bleeding profusely
            Shocked
            Burned

  • Management of the person who has sustained:-

                 A head injury
                 A spinal injury
                 A chest injury
                 An abdominal or pelvic injury
                 A broken bone

  • Sizing and fitting cervical collars.
  • Use of spinal boards.
  • Lifting and moving the injured person.
  • Pain management and use of analgesic gas.
  • Semi-automatic defibrillation
  • Documentation of the event.
  • Responding to and directing an emergency response.

This is a comprehensive cost effective program that provides participants with the skills necessary to begin to manage a situation where a worker or workers have sustained serious injuries and their life is in immediate danger. It is ideally suited to those with previous first aid training.

Certification:
On successful completion of the units of competency, participants will be provided with a Statement of Attainment Award that is nationally recognised. The skills included in the competencies will be identified on the award. A Workcover NSW first aid certificate will be issued for the component of the course covering Apply Basic First Aid and will be valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue. We strongly recommend retraining for Advanced Resuscitation, Defibrillation, and Trauma Management skills on an annual basis (a one day retraining program is available).

Code – HLTFA1A Apply Basic First Aid.

             HLTFA2A Apply Advanced First Aid

HLTFA3A Maintain First Aid Equipment and Resources (delivered in

             Conjunction with HLTFA2A)
